The Green-Collar Jobs Campaign at the Ella Baker Center is nationally renowned for its advocacy of green-collar jobs and "green pathways out of poverty" in the Bay Area and California. We are sponsoring important green jobs legislation this year, and have strong relationships with key legislators in the California State Assembly and Senate, including Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez and incoming Senate President ProTem Darrell Steinberg. We believe there are big opportunities for California to set the standard for other states to follow. How can California lead with clean-tech economic growth that creates thousands of quality, green-collar jobs? How can we create a world-class workforce to take on the global challenges of the climate crisis and other ecological crises, while simultaneously providing economic upliftment for the people of California?

Gain experience working in a fast-paced organization working for radical change, with strong connections at the grassroots level and in the halls of political power. Help us with research, writing, and advocacy to support our legislative efforts. Help us deepen our understanding of what's happening at the California Public Utilities Commission and other key regulatory agencies. Help us affect implementation of key policies, like AB32 (Global Warming Solutions Act) and SB1 (Million Solar Roofs Initiative).

We are working with fantastic allies throughout California, including the Apollo Alliance, labor union leadership (State Labor Federation and State Building and Construction Trades Council), environmental leadership (Sierra Club and California League of Conservation Voters), cutting-edge clean tech businesses (Sharp Solar, SunPower, Community Fuels, etc), community colleges, training and educational institutions, and racial and social justice organizations.

Send Henry Stern a reply if you are interested. Please specify your school affiliation, your preference for an immediate part-time externship, summer internship, or fall externship for next school year, and past experience in advocacy, if any. Course credit or sponsorship may be available.
