By several accounts, the world's fisheries are collapsing. However, demand for fisheries products continues to grow, making the future status of fisheries and the ecosystems, industries and communities that depend on them, uncertain. Several Bay Area companies, investors and non-governmental actors are leading a global effort to reform the sector towards sustainability. But what is 'sustainable' seafood? How does it get into the market place and how can we recognize it when we see it? Can the sustainable seafood movement reach the largest corporate actors? And perhaps most importantly, can it simultaneously increase demand for sustainable seafood products without contributing to their demise? In this workshop, we will investigate these and other questions by learning of the experiences, successes and challenges that Bay Area sustainable seafood actors face in their efforts. Please join us for a collaborative information exchange on the current status and future of the sustainable seafood movement. Location: Morgan Lounge, Morgan Hall - UC Berkeley
